CARDS / GAMES OF STRATEGY
Duplicate Bridge
A method of playing Bridge whereby competing players hold the same cards and compare the scores they have made on them. Played on Mondays at 12:30 p.m.
Euchre
A card game in which each player is dealt five cards and the player making trump must take three tricks to win a hand. Played on Tuesdays at 12:30 p.m.
Poker
Any of several card games in which a player bets that the value of their hand is greater than that of others. The player with the highest hand wins. Played on Wednesdays at 12:30 p.m.
6-Handed Euchre
A method of playing Euchre with six players. Played on Thursday at 12:30 p.m.
Social Bridge
A card game played with one deck of cards divided among four players who play in two pairs. Meets Thursdays at 12:30 p.m.
Pinochle
A card game played with a 48-card pack containing 2 each of A,K,Q,J,10, and 9's of each suit with the object to score points by melding certain combinations of cards or by winning tricks. Meets on Fridays at 12:30 p.m.
EDUCATION PROGRAMS
Art Classes with Instructor Marcia Conn
> Watercolor Class
- Meets in a six-week sessions on Tuesdays at 9:30 a.m. Cost is $30 for Booster Club members, $35 for non-Booster Club members.
> Drawing Class - This class covers the basics of design and drawing in six-week sessions on Tuesdays at 1:30 p.m. The cost is $30 for Booster members / $35 for non-Booster members.
> Oil / Acrylic Class
- Mees in six-week sessions on Thursdays at 9:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Wouk with your choice of oils or acrylics. Cost is $30 for Booster members / $35 for
non-Booster members.
Center Singers
The Maumee Senior Center Singers practice on Wednesdays at 10 a.m. under the
direction of Dave Markle. This group performs for outside groups for a suggested
donation of $35. Performances are booked through our Program Coordinator.
The Center hosts a large assortment of ongoing recreational programs that may be of interest to the visitor 60 years of age or older. Review our programs below and join us. Transportation to and from the Center is provided to seniors living within the Maumee school district on our 13 passenger van.

Simply-Lite Jazzercize
A 60-minute class that pairs moderate aerobics with exercises that are designed to improve strength, balance, and flexibility using easy-to-follow movements. Meets Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 11 a.m. Cost is $30 per 8 sessions.
Body Recall
A non-impact aerobic class for older adults. Designed to emphasize mobility, flexibility, strengthening and improve overall self-esteem. 12 sessions for $25 per month. Classes are held on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 1:15 - 2:15 p.m. This program is provided by St. Luke's Hospital.
Water Aerobics (Maumee Senior Aquatic Fitness)
Classes are held at the South Toledo YMCA on Woodsdale. Heated to 80-85 degrees. Classes are taught on Mondays and Thursdays from 1 to 1:45 p.m. A series runs for 8 weeks and the cost is $24. Must be a member of the Maumee Senior Center to obtain this rate; in addition the YMCA Associate membership fee is waived.
Water Arthritis Program
Classes are held at Sunshine Children's Home by trained personnel through a series of specially designed exercises. The pool has a hydraulic floor and is heated to 90 degrees. The class meets twice a week or three times a week, depending on the class time you are in. The cost is $50 for two months and includes open pool time and hot tub use after classes. Line Dancing
Three classes are offered by insturctor, Glen LeFever. Monday nights at 7 p.m. Thursday morning's Beginner class starts at 9 a.m. and the Advanced class begins at 10:10 a.m. Cost is $2 per class.
Golfing
Men's and Women's leagues play weekly beginning in May at Tanglewood Golf Club. As of 2006, the cost of 9 holes is $7.50, $5.50 per person sharing a cart. Call the Center to sign up.
Soft-Shoe
The Center's award-winning dance class, part of the Manhattan Dance Company, meets every Tuesday at 3 p.m. Bonnie Spencer is the instructor for this fun class. Cost is $7 per week.
Square Dancing
This class is offered by instructor, Glen LeFever. Wednesdays beginning on May 7 (time to be determined). You do not need a partner to participate in this fun class! Cost is $3 per class.

Bridge Lessons
Beginning and Intermediate lessons meet on Tuesdays at 9 a.m.
Backgammon & Chess
The Center continues to offer the opportunity to participate in these ancient board games that date back 5,000 years. Fridays from 1:30 - 4:30 p.m.
Cribbage
A card game traditionally for two players, but commonly played with three, four or more, that involves playing and grouping cards in combinations which gain points. The traditional cribbage board is used for scorekeeping. Meets every Thursday at 10:30 a.m.
BUNCO
A social dice game involving scoring and a simple set of rules. The object of the game is to accumulate points and to roll certain combinations. Winners may receive prizes for accomplishments such as the highest score, the lowest score, or the most buncos. Meets the second and fourth Friday from 1:30 - 3:30 p.m.
Organ Lessons
Instructor Jennifer Shaw gives lessons on Mondays at 11 a.m. and 12:15 p.m.and on Wednesdays at 10:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. Cost is $6 per class.
Speakers
Various educational topics are provided by speakers several times a month. Presentations are scheduled from 11:25 a.m. until 11:55 a.m., just prior to lunch. Other presentations may be scheduled at different times due to length of program.
Health Fairs / Health Screenings
Opportunities to learn more about your own health are offered throughout the year.
Computer Classes
Our Computer Lab is available from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday, unless a
class is in session. We offer a variety of classes including "Introduction to Computers", "Advanced Computer Skills", "Internet Class", and "Beginning & Advanced Digital Camera." Cost for full course (4 - 2 hour classes) is $50 for non-members and $45 for members.
CENTER SERVICES
Medicare / Insurance Assistance - Third Wednesday of each month. Half-hour appointments start at 10:30 a.m.
Legal Aid - Second Thursday every other month. Half-hour appointments start at 9 a.m.
60+ Nurse - Nurse comes to the Center every Thursday from 9 to 11:45 a.m. to weight checks, blood pressure checks and medication consultation.
Americare Health Services Equipment - Obtain your weight, vital signs (blood pressure & pulse), and blood oxygen level with this free state-of-the-art equipment. Check with this user-friendly for your own information. And/or results sent to your physician if you wish.
Free Tax Assistance
- Tax preparers are here before Tax Day to help seniors with their tax preparation. AARP is generally scheduled every Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. beginning in February through the filing date in April VTA (Volunteer Tax Assistance Program) also offers free assistance scheduling individual appointments throughout the tax preparation season. Income guidelines apply; watch for details.
